PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
ANZAC Assembly and Services
Today, we had our annual school ANZAC Assembly, hosted by the 2024 Student Leadership Council. ANZAC Day is one of Australia’s most important commemorative occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by our forces during the First World War. But it is also the moment to honour all those who served our nation and lost their lives during the First World War, the Second World War, and subsequent conflicts. Finally, ANZAC Day serves as a reminder that peace is a precious gift that we should never take for granted. We reflected on ANZAC Day and acknowledged the sacrifices that people have made to enable us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. I was very impressed with the respectful way that the SLC hosted this assembly, and students in all grades conducted themselves in a highly dignified and dutiful manner.
During the assembly, we also acknowledged those students who have had an excellent start to 2024, as reflected in the recent interim reports. It was very pleasing to recognise students from Years 7-10 for their outstanding, excellent, highly commendable, and commendable attitude towards their learning throughout Term 1. They can be very proud of their efforts.
SLC representatives will be representing Exeter High School at the dawn and 11.00am ANZAC Day service at Exeter, and at the 11.00am service at Beaconsfield. I look forward to attending the 11.00am Exeter service and hope to see as many students and families as possible to commemorate this important event.
World’s Greatest Shave
Each year our Student Leadership Council choose to support the Leukemia Foundation by hosting the World’s Greatest Shave and raising money to help fund research into fighting blood cancer. Usually, the event is held during a lunch hour; however, this year the SLC hosted the event in the gym with the whole school attending. The vibe was fantastic, with those students having their head shaved being well supported by their peers. A target of $560 was set for fundraising and we raised over $2000! Well done to our Student Leadership Council on running a successful event. The following students are to be commended for their fundraising efforts by having their head shaved: William, Brett, Alex, Sachen, and Oscar. Many thanks to Exeter Hair and Beauty who gave their time to shave, cut and colour the participants’ hair. We are very grateful to our community for all the donations.
Redevelopment Update
April Update
Our redevelopment has now commenced, and work has begun on turning the kitchen areas into modern industrial quality workspaces that our students will benefit from. By the start of Term 2, work will have commenced on redeveloping the Year 7/8 areas and this means that Year 7/8 students and staff will need to relocate classes for the foreseeable future. There will also be some changes with access to the outside areas.
We will ensure that there is minimal disruption to learning, and student expectations will remain high, as always, to support this. We will keep the community updated as we have further information and look forward to sharing photos as the work progresses.
Thank you to all our wonderful staff who have supported our students over the past term and ensured 2024 has begun in such a positive manner. I would like to wish all our students and families a safe and happy Term 1 holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone back at the start of Term 2 on Monday 29 April.

YEAR 8 VIKING WEEK EXHIBITION
In Year 8 HASS, students have been immersed in a depth study of the Vikings. As part of their learning, students worked to create a model of either a Viking shield, a Viking longhouse, a Viking longship using LEGO, or a Viking village in Minecraft. In addition to their models, students were required to produce annotations and research information to respond to a question as further demonstration of their knowledge and understanding. All the Viking models are currently on display in our school library, and they look amazing. The students thoroughly enjoyed ‘Viking Week’ and have made some important connections in relation to the Viking’s incredible skills in building and insights into the Viking way of life. This learning will assist students in writing a persuasive discussion essay in Term 2.
Year 8 HASS Team

Congratulations to our Year 7 Student Representative Council for 2024. These students have been elected by their peers to represent the grade and will work alongside the other grade SRC, and SLC throughout the year. Well done to Nate, Aaron, Hunter, Crystal, Zaxia, Kimberly, Bria, Chloe, and Ellie.
FORENSIC SCIENCE
Forensic science students have been investigating blood spatter patterns, looking at factors such as direction, speed, height, and angles of droplets.
YEAR 9/10 ART PROJECT
Throughout Term 4, 2023, and Term 1, 2024, a group of 9/10 Art students have designed and completed a mural at Exeter Childcare Centre. The flowers in the mural are inspired by the floral emblems of each state and territory in Australia. Students looked at the work of Australian artist Madeleine Stamer to inform their use of colour and line. The shape of the wavy blue line at the bottom of the mural represents the shoreline of Kanamaluka (Tamar River) from Greens Beach to Launceston.
Thank you to True Value Hardware in Exeter for the generous donation of paints for this project, and to the friendly staff at Exeter Childcare Centre for giving our students this fantastic opportunity. Big thanks and congratulations to our talented art students for their beautiful work – Willow, Grace, Keeley, Sienna, Emily, Charlotte, Asha, Monique, Thomas, Phoebe, Olivia and Ciara.
