PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Term 2 at Exeter High School. I hope staff and students had a restful and enjoyable holiday break and that everyone is feeling energised, motivated, and optimistic for the term ahead. We have had two very positive weeks focussing on establishing routines for the term for learning and behaviour.
ANZAC DAY SERVICES
It was a privilege to attend the ANZAC Day 11.00am Service at the Exeter RSL on behalf of our school with SLC members Katelyn and Paige representing the school in an outstanding manner. Their tribute to our soldiers was a true reflection of the calibre of students we have here at Exeter High School. I would like to thank all our SLC students who also spoke at the services at Exeter and Beaconsfield, and families and staff who attended the various services in our community on this very important day.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Annual General Meeting for the Exeter High School Association will be held on Tuesday 11 June 2024 at 6:00pm in the Library. The School Association would certainly value new members and their contributions moving forward.
The School Association is made up of parents, staff and community members, and is integral to the school, working with the Principal to achieve shared outcomes for learners attending the school and for the benefit of the whole school community. The purpose of the School Association is to provide members with a path to participate within and support the school.
Please contact the office on 6394 4366 for a nomination form as we have vacancies available. Please return the nomination form to the school office no later than 3.00pm on Tuesday 11th June.
ATTENDANCE
Every school day matters. Our current average daily attendance rate is 80%. This means that on any given day we have an average absence rate of 20% and we have too many students that are not attending school often enough. As we know, attendance at school every day is vital for students to succeed. By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity for a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests. Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick to. If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help and to discuss any ways in which we can further support you.
UNIFORM
Thank you to parents and carers for supporting your child to wear the correct uniform to school. It is great to see students wearing their uniform with pride! As the mornings get cooler, just a reminder that we have a variety of uniform items that are suitable for this time of year.
We do expect students to wear uniform all year round, and hoodies / trackies are not permitted. Many workplaces have a dress code and by adhering to one at school, students then find it easier to transition to workplace expectations. If you need support with your child’s uniform, you can talk to us to discuss your family’s eligibility for support or assistance in the purchase of school uniforms. A copy of the Dress Code and Uniform Policy is available from the school office.

YEAR 7 CAMP
Our Year 7 Camp, held at Camp Clayton in Ulverstone earlier this week, was very successful. Many thanks to Ty Stewart, Elle Fox, Skye Champion, Rebecca Huett, Ben Murfet, Greg Finnigan, Kerry Josey and Abbey Mervin for accompanying our students and planning such a terrific camp for everyone. Feedback from students about the camp was extremely, positive with students enjoying the fantastic facilities, fun activities, and delicious and plentiful food! It was great to see students returning to school looking tired but with big smiles after a fun-filled camp where positive relationships were fostered. Many thanks to staff who assisted back at school. We are very fortunate that we have staff members who are willing to give of their time and expertise to offer a camp program to our students.
RE-DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
The re-development is now in full swing, and much progress has been made with demolition over the holidays and the first weeks of Term 2. Students have adapted very well to the necessity of moving classrooms and getting used to new routines. A reminder of the importance of everyone treating each other respectfully and following expectations for the benefit of all, as our available space at school is, for the foreseeable future, less than usual.
Early May Update
We have had an initial conversation with Catherine Wolfhagen from Arts Tasmania to start to discuss the process for having an art installation as part of the re-development. We will keep the school community informed as this progresses.
CANTEEN PAYMENT OPTIONS
As students are not permitted to use their phones during school times, this is reminder that phones are not to be used for purchases at the school canteen. Items can, however, be purchased using the Qkr app, with cash or card.
