PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Pride and Maturity are two of our core values at Exeter High School. This term there have been many occasions to take pride in our school, and students have demonstrated maturity in a variety of different ways.
For example, last week a group of over 40 students and staff spent the whole school week in Canberra. As we would expect, our students conducted themselves impeccably and appreciated the opportunities that they had to participate in activities such as visiting Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and National Gallery of Australia. What an amazing experience for our young people. Thank you to all staff who organised and participated in this memorable occasion.
On Tuesday, 24th September our Year 10 students attended the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program (RYDA). This program involves a one-day workshop which develops students’ understanding of road safety and gives them the tools, habits and motivation to act and stay safe on our roads as both drivers and passengers throughout their lives. I am sure the students found this program very useful. Thank you to our Year 10 teaching team for facilitating this opportunity for our senior students.
I am aware that many students achieve great things outside of school in areas as diverse as drama, dance, sport and community involvement. I would like to congratulate those students who participate in these activities outside of school and encourage others to take hold of any opportunities that present themselves to you in the future. Well done to these people for being aspirational to learn and improve, and if you do have news of an achievement, please let us know so that we can celebrate it within our school community.
This Wednesday, we had a whole school assembly to conclude the term and to celebrate and recognise many successes that have occurred. Thank you to our School Association for providing a barbecue lunch and the lolly jar prizes.
I continue to be impressed daily, as I visit classrooms, at the quality teaching and learning that I see in our school, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our school community who have positively contributed to our school throughout the term. I wish those students, families and staff, with holidays, an enjoyable, restful and refreshing break.
We will see students on Monday 14th October for a positive and productive Term 4.

RYDA - Tuesday, 24 September
RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) is a program professionally developed by leading learning organisation, Road Safety Education Limited (RSE), and is designed to complement the high school curriculum. RYDA features a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop (held at Symmons Plains Raceway) which front-loads students’ understanding of road safety.
2024 TASMANIAN MERINO WETHER CHALLENGE
The 2024 Tasmanian Merino Wether Challenge was held at the Campbell Town Show grounds on Wednesday. The challenge involved 14 schools from around the state, each looking after six pure-bred Merino wethers for a period of time. The sheep are presented to judges who look at various breed traits, including weight, eye muscle grading, conformation, teeth and feet. Particular attention is given to the thickness, weight and crimp of the wool. We had two teams of three sheep plus handlers. We were fortunate to get a second and first placing for “Highest Wool Value”, a first placing in “Best Presented Group” and were awarded “Grand Champion” plus runner up for the whole challenge. Every student in both 9/10 Ag options classes contributed to the husbandry and training of these sheep. All of the students who came to the challenge were commended by the organisers for their enthusiasm, conduct and presentation at the challenge.
