PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back to Term 4 – we hope you had a great break! In this newsletter, I would like to discuss two key things that will set students up for success in Term 4.
Safe, Well and Learning
We are committed to working with students and families to ensure that all students are safe, well and learning. We have high expectations of student behaviour and are guided by our Exeter High School values of Respect, Acceptance, Maturity and Learning.
We currently have a focus on our value of Respect. We know that most of our students understand what respect looks like and model it daily in their interactions with everyone that they come into contact with. These students can be proud of the way that they do this on a daily basis, and we congratulate them for it.
Unfortunately, we have had some instances of a small number of students not being respectful to each other, and other students not being helpful in stopping this behaviour. This has included things like making negative comments, spreading rumours and using mobile phones and social media to encourage other students to act in a disrespectful manner.
As a school, we will always strive to work with everyone involved to ensure that any issues are resolved in a respectful, thorough and supportive way. Our students have been given clear and consistent messages about the importance of the right to be treated respectfully, and the responsibility to treat others respectfully. Everyone has a part to play in taking responsibility for this. All students have been informed that if we have evidence of them engaging in any disrespectful behaviours at school, there will be appropriate consequences.
Our core business is learning, and once again we expect that students are always respectful in class and that they follow reasonable instructions from teachers to do their best and make the most of their learning opportunities so that they can have positive futures beyond school. We are proud of our calm and orderly learning environment, and the way that the vast majority of our students are engaged with their learning and appreciative of the opportunities presented to them.
Parents play a vital role in the follow up of behaviour and we greatly appreciate the wonderful support that we receive from so many of our parents and that consistent messages are given between home and school. When instances of disrespectful behaviour such as use of texting and social media occur outside of school hours, we ask parents to deal with this, as the school is not able to follow up on these matters with consequences.
We look forward to a positive and productive Term 4.
Every school day counts
School is the best place for our students, it’s a chance to be around friends, learn new things, grow and have fun.
Sometimes the final stretch of the year can be challenging for regular school attendance. Here are some tips to make every day count:
- Create a routine.
- Allow enough time in the morning.
- Be on time, every day.
- Plan appointments and trips outside school hours.
- Get a good night’s sleep.
- Set some technology boundaries.

If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’re here to help.

CANBERRA TRIP
2024 Canberra Trip Highlights
In Week 9 of Term 3, forty-two students and four brave teachers set off for Canberra. All students were filled with excitement with some experiencing their first time on a plane! Please enjoy a daily recap below by two of the students who joined us on the trip.
Day 1: After a long plane ride, we arrived at Sydney airport where we were met by our bus driver, Jim. Jim helped us with our bags before beginning the long drive to Canberra with a detour for lunch. We then arrived at our hotel and had an early dinner before traveling to Questacon. Here we visited many interactive exhibitions including an earthquake house and a drop slide.
Day 2: After breakfast we headed to the Australian Institute of Sport, where we toured the training facilities of Australia's top athletes, before visiting Sportex. Then we visited the National Film and Sound Archives of Australia. Here we learnt about the ins and outs of media and how it can influence its audience. In the afternoon, we headed to the National Gallery, where we viewed priceless Australian art before returning home for dinner.
Day 3: In the morning, we visited the Australian War Memorial. We started off by exploring the many WW1 exhibitions, before visiting the Role of Honour and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was a moving and educational experience. Afterwords, we went to the National Botanical Gardens. Here we toured the grounds and learnt about plant adaptations and the biomes they live in. After lunch we toured the ANZAC Parade, where we were taught how to analyse and interpret memorials. We finished the day with a scenic drive to view Canberra from above, and some shopping at a nearby mall.
Day 4: To start the day, our bus driver, Jim took us on a tour of the nearby embassies. We then drove to Parliament House, where we learnt of Australia’s history of democracy. After a short walk, we arrived at the new Parliament House, where we were greeted by Tasmanian Senator, Helen Polly. We then viewed the Senate and the House of Representatives, before sightseeing from the roof. We then ended the day by travelling to Yarralumla Play Station, where we participated in mini golf and played with animals at the farm.
Day 5: In the morning, we finished packing our belongings and bid farewell to our hotel. Next, we set off on a self-guided exploration of the National Arboretum. After enjoying some time at the playground, we hopped on the bus and got ready for the lengthy journey back to the airport.
This experience was truly remarkable, and we would be eager to participate in a similar opportunity in the future. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the planning and execution of this trip. Your dedication is sincerely valued. Thank you.
