PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

As we step into the new school year, we are delighted to report that our students have settled in wonderfully. The energy and enthusiasm around the school are palpable as everyone embraces the opportunities that lie ahead. From day one, it has been clear that our students are eager to engage in their learning experiences and make the most out of this academic year. Classrooms are buzzing with excitement as teachers introduce new concepts and innovative projects. Our students are diving headfirst into their studies, demonstrating curiosity and a strong desire to succeed. Whether through collaborative group work, hands-on experiments in science classes, or creative expressions in the arts, it’s encouraging to see each student thriving in an environment that fosters growth and exploration. This year, we have implemented several initiatives aimed at enhancing student participation and engagement. Our STEM program has gained significant traction, with students working on meaningful projects that tie into real-world applications. In addition, our reading programs are motivating students to explore various genres, sparking lively discussions and fostering a community of young readers. We have also seen terrific participation in extracurricular activities, which play a critical role in student engagement. From academic opportunities to sports teams, our students are building friendships, learning teamwork, and developing leadership skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. We invite parents and guardians to be part of this exciting journey by getting involved in our school activities. Your participation and support significantly enrich our programs and strengthen our school community. Keep an eye out for upcoming events where you can meet teachers, engage with your child’s learning, and connect with fellow parents. As we move forward into the school year, we encourage everyone to continue fostering a culture of curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm for learning. Together, let’s make this year a memorable one for all our students!
We are excited to share the latest updates on our school redevelopment project! We are pleased to report that the redevelopment is on track, and we can already see significant progress. Construction teams have been diligently working to ensure that the new facilities meet the needs of our students and staff. The design takes into account the feedback from our community, incorporating modern learning spaces, improved resources, and areas that promote collaboration and creativity.
The framework for our new classrooms and communal areas in Block 5 are taking shape, and we can already visualise the vibrant environment these spaces will create for our students. Our Year 7 and Year 8 students are enjoying the opening of Block 2. We appreciate the continued support and patience of our students, parents, and staff during this redevelopment process. We believe that these new facilities will greatly enhance the educational experience for our entire community and provide a foundation for future success.

HANDS ON LEARNING PROGRAM
In 2025, Exeter High School is launching Hands on Learning (HoL), a practical wellbeing program designed to support students and the different ways they learn.
Supported by two teachers, a small group of students will work outside their normal classes for the full day each Monday, focussing on building skills and confidence through practical tasks. Students enrolled in the HoL program will generally participate for at least six (6) months. Projects will be undertaken by the group collectively, based in the school and at times in our local community.
For further information, check out the Information for Parents flyer (available at the school office), or visit https://handsonlearning.org.au/
If you would like to enquire about your child joining HoL at Exeter High, please contact the school on (03) 6394 4366 or email us at victoria.bell@decyp.tas.gov.au and patrick.kerrison@decyp.tas.gov.au
