PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Our school's Cross Country Carnival was held last week and, as always, there were some outstanding individual performances. Just as important, however, is the participation of students, as physical activity is vital to our health and wellbeing, both mentally and physically. This year, we extended the invitation to parents to come and watch the children and enjoy a free BBQ. This event has been great for building a positive school culture, which is essential for creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students and staff can thrive. The Cross Country Carnival showcased the strong relationships we have between staff and students, and it was great to see the amount of encouragement everyone had for each other. Building a positive school culture promotes respect, open communication, and emphasises positive collaboration, which can enhance academic achievement and overall wellbeing.
I have highlighted the importance of respect in previous newsletters, but I again wish to remind the community of its importance. Respectful behaviour is vital for maintaining healthy relationships and creating a positive environment. We want all members of the Exeter High School community to be considerate, kind, and show empathy towards others in all interactions. Respect is a behaviour that should be practiced by everyone, regardless of age, gender, or culture. When people feel respected, they are more likely to communicate openly, share their thoughts, and work with others to achieve common goals. As an EHS community, we want to create a respectful and inclusive environment. Any form of disrespect will not be tolerated. This includes the use of offensive or derogatory language or any kind of racism. For more information on the Department of Education's Child and Young People's policy on Respectful Schools, visit the following link:

The redevelopment is still on track, with paving commencing in the bottom courtyard. All external cladding has now been installed on the 9/10 block. We have also had 4 large shade umbrellas installed in the top courtyard to provide our students with shade during the warmer months.
Wearing the school uniform is an essential aspect of school life. It is a symbol of identity and pride that fosters a positive school culture. Wearing a school uniform creates a healthy school environment where all students feel included and welcomed. Exeter High School students should feel proud to represent our school by wearing their uniform every day. Hoodies and tights are not part of our uniform, and I would appreciate parents’ support by ensuring that students are in full school uniform every day. If you need assistance, please contact the school office.

EHS CROSS COUNTRY & COLOUR RUN

Congratulations to all our students who took part in the Cross Country Carnival and Colour Run! It was fantastic to see so many displays of determination, great running and students giving their best efforts.
A big well done to Oonah for taking out first place, followed by Quoiba in second and Lenah in third.
Thank you to everyone who made the day such a success – especially West Tamar Rotary for cooking the BBQ and to the parents/carers who came along to support.
Congratulation to these place getters

HANDS ON LEARNING (HoL)
The first few weeks of Term 2 in Hands on Learning have been busy. We are making great progress on a courtyard revamp and commencing our first mural. Last week, the team from Tas City Building showed us how to assemble the new tables for the art room. Some additional projects will be underway as the cooler weather sets in. The student team is working hard.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ART

The Art Room was bursting with colour last week as 7A got hands-on with tie-dye to wrap up their Art rotation in options. Students experimented with all sorts of techniques to create their own custom t-shirts – super fun and seriously cool results. The designs were so impressive, even some teachers joined in to make their own.

SUPERCARS
The Introduction to Automotive Studies classes recently visited the Supercars event at Symmons Plains Raceway. Everyone had a great time, and we were lucky enough to visit some team garages, learning about the cars.

THINGS ARE HEATING UP IN YEAR 7 SCIENCE
As part of their Chemistry unit on the three states of matter, our Year 7 Science students have been investigating the melting and boiling points of salt water compared to normal water. They created a hypothesis based on prior learning and conducted controlled experiments to collect data and observe changes. Students are now learning how to write scientific reports to clearly communicate their findings.
